Tentative Accompanying Persons Program

22 June 2011  1/2 day fully guided 3-hour city tour of  Zürich

Accompanying persons have lunch with the conference attendees at the ETH Zentrum. Accompanying persons will receive a lunch voucher in advance (together with a more detailed program of all the activities for accompanying persons).

At 13:30pm we will meet on the terrace of the ETH Zentrum to start the fully guided tour of Zürich. We will see the Limmatquai, the Niederdorf with its different Guilde houses and Grossmünster Cathedral, Fraumünster Church and St. Peter church on our stroll through the inner city. We will then explore the outside quarters of Zürich like Enge, the lake shore and Zürichberg by coach.

Duration: ca. 3 hours: 1.5 hours for the stroll, 1.5 hours on the coach

Difficulty Level: 1.5 hour by coach and 1.5 hour stroll through the old town of Zurich. This might include narrow, sometimes steep ways, stairs, cobble stone pavement.


23 June 2011 1/2 day Boat Trip to Rapperswil on Lake Zürich

We will take the boat to Rapperswil at about 9.30am. Details on the meeting point will be available on the detailed program. The boat trip from Zürich to Rapperswil takes about 2 hours. In Rapperswil, we will have a light lunch and a stroll through the picturesque old town of Rapperswil before returning to Zurich by train.

Duration: 5-6 hours

Difficulty Level: Most time is spent on the ship, short stroll through the old town of Rapperswil, might include cobble stone pavement, stairs, and some narrow passages.


24 June 2011 1/2 day to Atzmännig (Goldingen)

 We will drive to Atzmännig by coach at ca. 9:30am. Details on the meeting point will be available on the detailed program. Atzmännig is situated about 1 hour away from Zurich (by coach). We will take the double-seated chairlift up to the Alp Atzmännig (1200 m). On the alp, we will go on a short hiking tour and have a light lunch in one of the mountain restaurants. There is a toboggan run down to the valley station that those who are courageous enough to venture. For all others there is the chairlift down to the valley station.

The chairlifts are not in service when there is heavy rain or heavy wind. If this would be the case, an alternative program is provided.

Duration: 5-7 hours

Difficulty Level: Chairlifts (not suitable for people who suffer from acrophobia), stairs, moderate up- and downhill, walking on gravel. Max. walking time 40 to 60 minutes.
