Preface
This proceedings offer a valuable collection of peer-reviewed technical articles in the field of structural engineering and construction accepted for publication and presented at the Fifth Australasia and South East Asia Conference in Structural Engineering and Construction, ASEA-SEC-5. The proceedings contain nine chapters with articles in the relevant fields including concrete material and structures; steel and timber structures; structural dynamics and earthquake engineering; engineering design, risk analysis, and optimization; infrastructure, roads, and bridges; project cost, quality control, and procurement; project management and law and dispute resolution; construction methods, safety, and process simulation; and architecture, housing, and BIM.
The conference was hosted by the Ara Institute of Canterbury and was held in a hybrid format with both onsite and online participants, over the period of November 30 - December 3, 2020. At a time that the COVID-19 crisis has affected most countries around the world, and with the major disruption of international travel, this virtual/hybrid conference provided a great opportunity for the academics, researchers and engineers from around the world to publish and present their research and to exchange ideas and discuss the latest international developments in the areas of structural engineering and construction.
On behalf of the conference organizing committee, we would like to thank all the authors who presented their works and contributed to the conference and these published proceedings. We acknowledge the conference technical committee members and the reviewers for their time and commitment to ensure that the quality and originality of the articles carries the highest scientific standards. We are grateful for the support and cooperation of the ISEC advisory committee and the host organisation, Ara institute of Canterbury, for providing the required infrastructure and logistic support.
