Emerging Technologies and Sustainability Principles in Structural Engineering and Construction
Christchurch, New Zealand, November 30 - December 3, 2020
Technical Tour
Date: Wednesday 02 December 2020
Technical Tour: Guided walk (Christchurch CBD)
Minimum Number of Tour Participants: 5
This guided walk within the Christchurch CBD visits a number of buildings that are exemplars of sustainable and seismic resilient design and construction and will provide you with information on the technologies and the designs used in these buildings.
- Te Puna Wānaka, Ara’s centre for Māori and Indigenous Studies
This building is an exemplar deep green retrofit and refurbishment project, designed to align with the International Living Future’s CORE certification standard. A key driver for this project was to showcase and celebrate the synergies between a Māori world view (as it extends and applies to the renovation of a kaupapa Māori building) and the application of a holistic sustainability rating system framework.
- A number of buildings with advanced seismic resisting systems
A range of innovative seismic resisting systems and seismic retrofitting technique including BRBs, base isolation techniques and post-tensioned rocking systems are deployed in a number of major buildings in Christchurch CBD, which are exemplars of seismic resilient structures.
- Ōtākaro Orchard
This is a living learning hub including a local food information centre, with restaurant, office and event spaces, and HQ for the Food Resilience Network. The community building, constructed in 2019, incorporates an extensive green roof, a solar panel array to provide a large percentage of the buildings energy demand. The building is an exemplar of a strong vision and an integrated multi-disciplinary approach to design and construction.
Further details including the tour duration and start point (meet-up location) to be confirmed.
